PsychCare Consultants Research conducts pharmaceutical industry sponsored clinical trials in psychiatry and neurology. This includes phase II through post marketing. Since its inception in 1999 PsychCare Consultants Research has conducted over 150 clinical trials.

OUR LEADERSHIP

PsychCare Consultants Research was established in 1999 by Azfar Malik M.D., M.B.A., D.F.A.P.A. and has two sub-investigators. Maheen Malik M.D is a board certified neurologist, and Shazia Malik M.D. is a board certified psychiatrist. The division employs five full time clinical research coordinators, together they have 50 combined years in the clinical research field. Dr. Malik has also conducted several investigator-initiated trials of various indications.

Founder, President and Principal Investigator

Dr. Azfar Malik

Principal Investigator, is Board Certified in Psychiatry. Dr. Malik graduated from Mount Carmel Hospital, Malta University. Dr. Malik completed his Psychiatry Fellowship at St John’s Mercy Medical Center. Board Certification American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Addictive Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Malik is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Saint Louis University health sciences, CEO and Chief Medical officer at Centerpointe Hospital, and President and CEO of Sunshine residential facility. Dr. Malik received honors in 2008 Received, the National NAMI award for Exemplary Psychiatrist, 2008 Received, NAMI – St. Louis Mortimer Goodman Award, 2006 Received, The Prestigious Missourian Award by the Governor of Missouri, 2005 Nominated, Fellow, American Psychiatric Association, 2005 Received, Heroes in the Flight Award by NAMI-Missouri, 2005 Published in MD News-Topic Chemical Dependency Treatments for Center Pointe Hospital, 2004 Published in MD News as Chairman of Board for Center Pointe Hospital and Psych Care Consultants, LLC. Dr. Malik has conducted over 150 clinical trials in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease, Bipolar disorder I and II, Schizoaffective disorder, Schizophrenia, Anxiety, Major Depressive Disorder, Opioid Use Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Migraine, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Multiple Sclerosis, Postpartum depression, Insomnia, Parkinson’s Disease and Tardive dyskinesia.

Principal Investigator/ Sub Investigator

Dr. Maheen Malik

Dr. Maheen M. Malik specializes in neurology and has over 30 years of experience in the field of medicine. Dr. Malik completed their Neurology Residency and Stroke Fellowship at St Louis University School Of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Neurology. She is affiliated with Mercy Hospitals and is the director of the stroke program. She and her nurse practitioners see patients with Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Migraines, Movement Disorder as well as other neurological conditions.

Principal Investigator/ Sub Investigator

Narendir Soorya

Dr. Soorya has been a board certified Psychiatrist in General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since 1974. Additionally, he is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Soorya is a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society, Missouri Psychiatric Physicians Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and American Medical Association.

Dr. Soorya was elected to the Fellowship of American Psychiatric Association in 1985 and the Life Fellowship of America Psychiatric Association in 2001.

Clinical Director

Syed Haidi Zaidi

Syed Hadi Zaidi has an MD in Pathology and is working at PsychCare Consultant Research as the Clinical Director. His work focuses on Treatment Resistant Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Tardive Dyskinesia, Multiple Sclerosis, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Addiction, and Schizophrenia. Syed is also a rater for cognitive impairment, MINI, C-SSRS, VRFCAT, PANSS, BAC, PCRS, DCSS, HCRU, MSQ, PROs, MCCB, SCORS, AIMS, mSAS, and BARS. He has more than 30 years of experience in the medical field with varied duties in inpatient hospitals, teaching, outpatient hospitals, and Clinical Research.

Clinical Research Coordinator

Lata Kumari

Lata Kumari is an MBBS (MD) graduate, working at PsychCare Consultant Research as Clinical Research Coordinator for five years. Her work focuses specifically on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Treatment Resistant Depression, and Schizophrenia. She has more than 14 years of experience in the medical field with varied duties in inpatient hospitals, outpatient hospitals, Lab Assistant, and Clinical Research.

Primary Investigator

Dr. Shazia Malik

Dr. Shazia Malik has more than 20 years of expertise as a certified psychiatrist in her practice. Beginning her research endeavors in 1992, she now is an acclaimed investigator within the research community. Since 1995, Dr. Malik has been a dedicated member of the American Psychiatry Association, showcasing her leadership skills as the Clinical Director of the Outpatient Program at Centerpointe Hospital, where she played a pivotal role in program development. Driven by a passion for integrating her research acumen with patient care, Dr. Malik eagerly seeks opportunities to enhance her contributions to the field and routinely treats patients with a wide array of mental health disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, addiction, and schizophrenia. Additionally, Dr. Malik is certified in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as an Investigator. Her oversight will ensure smooth execution of duties within specified timeframes.

Senior Clinical Coordinator

Anita Broeker

Dr. Azfar Malik and Anita started conducting research trials together in 1999. Anita has conducted over 100 trials including medical clinical trials, device trials and investigator initiated trials. She also works on budgets, contracts and regulatory compliance.

General Information

All Staff are ICH-GCP and IATA certified.
We do not utilize EMR at our site. We use paper source.
We use a central IRB. IRB submission can be done in conjunction with contract and budget negotiations. These processes both typically take 1-2 weeks.
All licenses, ICH GCP, and IATA training documentation is included in all staff CVs and is done every 2 years.
We recruit primarily from our database of Dr. Malik’s private practice office (80%) and advertising (20%).
We have O2, AED, and crash cart onsite.
We have 3 exam rooms dedicated to seeing patients. We have an onsite lab for processing labs. We store medication and samples at ambient, refrigerated, and frozen conditions.
We have a dedicated monitoring room with WIFI and access to copy/fax.
Calibrations are kept on all site equipment. Annual calibrations are performed each year in November.
